Force feedback for the next generation of humanoid robotics

Ximic is our eight-month effort to develop a force feedback upper-body exoskeleton for humanoid robotics platforms. The suit will capture a human operator's upper-body motion and return physical feedback from the robot, creating a more direct way to control and understand a humanoid system.

The project

Ximic will translate movement from the operator's arms and torso into commands for a humanoid robot. At the same time, forces measured at the robot will be reflected back through the suit so the operator can feel how the robot is interacting with its environment.

Our work spans mechanical design, actuation, sensing, controls, firmware, and safety. Across the eight-month project, we will move from defining needs and design requirements through prototyping, integration, testing, and a final demonstration.
